Fire System Design is the engineering and drawing work that sets out how a building will be protected: escape routes, fire-rated separations, detection, sprinklers, hydrants, water supply and smoke control. Developers, architects and owners need it for new buildings, changes of use and plan approval.

Fire System Design FAQs
What is a rational fire design?
An engineered design that shows a building meets the functional fire requirements of the National Building Regulations by another route than the deemed-to-satisfy rules. Under regulation T1 the council may require one, prepared by an approved competent person registered under the Engineering Profession Act.
Do I need a fire design for plan approval?
Most new non-residential buildings and many alterations need fire information on the plans. Your architect or the municipality will confirm.
Does the designer install the system?
Usually not. Installers quote separately from the design.
